COVID-19 vaccinations open to people aged 50 and older

Monday, 03 May 2021

Barwon Health’s Community Vaccination Hub in Norlane has opened its doors to everyone in the community aged over 50, with almost 800 people immunised on Monday.

Ford’s former home at Norlane has transformed from the centre of Australia’s motor industry into a COVID-19 vaccination hub that will service the majority of the Geelong and Surf Coast region.

Managed and operated by Barwon Health, Geelong’s community vaccination hub has the capacity to provide vaccines to more than 10,000 people a week.

If you are eligible, please phone 1800 675 398 to book your appointment or click here.

51 year-old Geelong chauffer driver Andrew Caddy jumped at the chance to receive his vaccination, believing it was the right thing to do for the community and also to protect himself and his family,

“As a chauffeur driver I often transport sea pilots and interstate workers, so getting vaccinated is very important to me to protect against COVID-19," he said.

"I’ve been amazed at how well everything is run. It’s been such an easy process from booking through to getting my vaccination.”

Barwon Health CEO Frances Diver is urging the community to book an appointment, with some walk-in appointments also available.

“The COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and free and Barwon Health is encouraging everyone to take the opportunity to protect yourself, your loved ones and the community," she said.

“The global pandemic is far from over, but we are very fortunate in Australia and Victoria that things are under control and well managed. We have great freedoms that we want to protect which means we all need to take steps to stay healthy.”

GPs across the region are also playing an important role in the rollout process, and Barwon Health is working alongside the Primary Health Network as it co-ordinates this part of the vaccination program.
